Wednesday already and the heavens have opened and its a miserable day!! As lots of people are enjoying the half term I am working all week so have been too busy to do any crafting at all, not even any art journaling!!!

Sunday evening we went to the cinema to see Simon Pegg's new film 'Paul'. It was very, very good, so funny and really enjoyed it, been a long time since i've wanted to go to the cinema to see a film without waiting for it to come out on DVD.

Another Vintage Camera

My Aunt and Uncle love to go to antique auctions and went to one a couple of days ago and bought me this lovely old vintage camera to go with my ever growing collection. We think it was made between 1926-1932 by Kodak in the USA, which makes it my oldest so far and its big!!

Went into the city yesterday and on a whim popped into a hairdressers and had my hair washed, cut and blow dried, it was lovely. Not much of a change but had it really thinned out and abit of a fringe put in. This of course showed up more of my grey hairs so it was time for the colouring bottle to come out this morning. I tried this new one by Loreal which is a mousse which did go on well and I didn't make so much mess like I usually do!! Taking Kimberley to have her hair cut after school today as she wants a different style, think it will have to be Alex's turn next week!!!

Tomorrow is my scrapbooking crop so looking forward to catching up with everyone and I might even get something done!! Next week is half term which the kids are so looking forward to, seems a long time since the Xmas break. Going to try and fit in a visit to the cinema to see Simon Pegg's new film 'Paul', it looks really good and funny.

This Saturday is my crop, 1pm to 5pm at the usual place. I will be bringing my Art Journal supplies along so if anyone would like to have a play at doing an art journal page then they are more than welcome. I got this month's Craft Stamper magazine and Kate Crane has a great tutorial in there that I've tried to replicate, here.

Whirlwind few days

Had a hectic few days, Lucy has been ill and ended up staying at the vets Thursday night as she had been vomiting and had severe dehydration so they kept her in on a drip etc. We were allowed to bring her home yesterday evening complete with three lots of medication. She seems abit better today and hopefully will have something to eat tonight.

Today I went to Lisa's crop and stayed for a few hours catching up on lots of news and gossip and even managed to paint a couple of pages in my art journal and enjoyed a low calorie muffin made by her husband Paul!!!

Neil and I bought some Spring plants to put in the garden including these gorgeous little iris plants.

Such a lovely sunny day with bright blue skies today so made the most of it and took my camera with me into the city and met Mum for a coffee in the Castle which gave me an opportunity to take some photos from the Castle. You can just go into the Castle for a coffee without having to pay the entrance fee which is great, somewhere different to go to.

A Busy Weekend

Such a busy weekend, I worked most of Saturday and the afternoon was spent shopping at Asda and a quick trip to Wymondham to have a look around the Antiques Centre. Sunday Neil wanted to go to a car boot sale to look for some garden tools so off we went to Costessey Car Boot where he did get some tools then we went to the Antiques & Collectors Fair which was just up the road. We were there over two hours having a good look around it was very good and I managed to pick up two old cameras, one for £5.00 and one for £3.00 which was a bargain. so I was happy. Got three old cameras now as you can see in the above photo.

Home Gym

At last our gym equipment has arrived. Neil ordered the two items just after Xmas and they arrived today. We've got a cross trainer/bike and a rowing machine safely installed in our conservatory. Going to take my measurements and some photos so I can do a before and after comparison, wish me luck!!!

Here's a scrapbook layout that I did yesterday, using up some American Crafts papers and odds and ends of flowers etc that I've got. Click on photo for closer look. The 'birdwatch' layout I completed this morning using some more American Crafts papers and a few ideas I saw somewhere but can't remember where!! The last layout is a quick one using a digital grid and Photoshop.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

I took part today in this year's Big Garden Birdwatch hosted by the RSPB.

If like us, you love birds and want to help them, then the Big Garden Birdwatch is your chance to do something that really counts. All you need is a pen, some scrap paper (or, a printout of our handy bird ID sheet), and an hour to spend watching the birds in your garden on either Saturday 29, or Sunday 30 January 2011. Then simply record the highest number of each bird species seen in your garden, or local park (not flying over) at any one time, and come back to these page to tell us what you saw.

Managed to see some Blue Tits, a Long Tailed Tit, Collared Dove, House Sparrows and a Robin all in the space of an hour.

Not sure where the time has gone but its been over a week since I've updated this blog. Spent Saturday afternoon with Kim and her friend in the city looking for a Prom dress for their Prom in June, they tried a few on but don't think they fell in love with anything, going to some more shops this Saturday I think. Sunday was spent putting some shelves up in my craft room and then having a good sort through all my stash. Spent the last couple of days doing my February page in my Art Journal Diary.

A Quiet Day at Home

I had planned a day of going into the city but didn't feel upto it today, been suffering with a headache since about last Friday so decided a day at home was in order. So after some housework (does it never end?!!) I spent time in my craft room today. Managed to finish TWO scrapbooking layouts. The first one is of Kim taken at Xmas and some Glitz papers and embellishments.

The second one is a 8.5x11 size layout using photos taken at Cromer beach last weekend, a part of the layout was taken from the December issue of Scrapbook etc magazine.

I've also taken a photo of my 'photo wall' as you can see i'm waiting for one more of my photos to be put up but can't decide which one to enlarge. The other photo is of my windowsill which seems to be getter fuller and fuller!!

Sunset & Queensland Flood Disaster Scrapbooking Kit

Yesterday on our walk we noticed that the local river had flooded, we've had some rain but didn't think we had had that much. The ducks and swans were having a nice time though.

The sunset Friday night here in Norwich was gorgeous.

A very mild day here in Norfolk - 12C!! Can you believe it, it feels like it should be springtime but obviously it isn't and I'm sure the cold weather will be back soon but its lovely not to have to put thick gloves, coats and scarves on.

Today I managed to finish a layout that I am going to show at my crop this Saturday. Its based on the Art Journal Calendar that I am doing but thought it would make a good idea for scrapbooking as well.

Art Journal Diary Post

My Art Journal Calendar that I am doing each month is also going to be used inbetween each month as a diary, doing pages when the mood takes me and something has inspired me that day. Here are a couple i've done this week. One page is about the things that I'm going to try and do, abit like New Year's Resolutions but not quite as bad!! The second page is all about my new Nokia phone I got this week and the third photo is a hint on what I will be doing next!!

Beautiful blue sky today for the first time it seems in weeks so Neil and I put Lucy in the car and went for a walk along the beach at Cromer armed with my camera (of course!!). Havn't taken any photos outside for weeks and weeks as the weather has been so bad and the skies so dark. Today though it was COLD!!! My hands kept freezing so didn't take too many photos in the end but got some of Lucy playing on the beach, some of the brightly painted beach huts on the promenade. Warmed up with a hot chocolate in one of the few cafe's open which was nice then home and I cleaned my car which being grey was absolutely filthy after the snow etc. Had lunch now going to clean the bathrooms and then do some more work on my art journal. Back later with some journal photos.

A Layout at Last!

Eventually managed to do some scrapbooking this week - only one layout though so far. Sorry for the awful photo but the light round here is terrible at the moment. Photo of Kim and I taken just before Xmas and papers are American Crafts (a lot pinker in real life). Been working on my Art Journal Diary and keeping it upto date, more piccies soon.

Its Neil's birthday today and he has the day off but we've been clearing the garage out, putting rubbish in the car ready for a trip to the tip tomorrow, sorting out the conservatory ready for his delivery of his birthday presents - a cross trainer and a rowing machine!! Since we've been in this year, 15 years, our conservatory has been a play room, scrapbooking room, sunroom, storage room and now its going to be a gym!!! Just got to find room for the stuff from that room now!!

We hit the Sales!!!

Kim and I braved the sales today!! We got into the city about 10ish and left about 4!! It was the busiest I've seen Norwich for years, think everyone had not bought much at Xmas and left it to the Sales. As you can see quite a few things were bought! I didn't get as much as I needed, I got a punch reduced in Jarrolds, some eye shadows in Boots, one top and one pair of cords. Will have to pop in again at the weekend when its abit quietier I think the queues for some of the shops were awful so didn't even think about going in them. Kim managed to get a few tops she wanted too so she was happy.

Christmas Day Photos

Christmas Day was spent walking the dog, peeling vegetables, cooking lunch and being with family, the evening was spent being slightly confused watching the Inception DVD!! Tonights DVD will be slightly less difficult to comprehend - Toy Story 3!!

Monday Kimberley and I went out for lunch with Mum and my Nan in the city, unfortunately the restaurants heating had broken so it was abit nippy in there!!!but it was nice not to have to cook and wash up afterwards!

The temperature has still not gone above freezing this week and everywhere is still snowy and frosty so looks like we could have a 'white' Christmas this year. The only one not complaining about the cold seems to be Lucy, she's loving the snow and still wants to go out for long walks!

Baking Marathon

At last had time yesterday to do some baking, what is it about Xmas that makes you want to bake?!!! Make a lemon drizzle cake using my new tin, some mince pies and Kim and her friends make the little Christmas cake minis which we did last year and everyone loved. Catching up with housework yesterday and then we all had a Chinese takeaway for tea and settled down to watch the finals of Strictly Come Dancing. I wanted Matt to win but not unhappy that Kara did as she was an excellent dancer. So cold here at the moment, don't think the daytime temps got above freezing yesterday. Off out with Lucy and the camera in a little while and then going to spend time in my craft room (fingers crossed!) and got the presents to wrap up too!

Mini Christmas Puds
Take one ready made Xmas pudding (I just use the cheapest from Asda etc) break up into small pieces into a large bowl. Add a little bit of brandy if desired. Melt two bars of dark chocolate and add to the crumbled up pudding, stir in. Using your hands grab about a tablespoonful and form into a ball and then put in the fridge to 'set'. When firm melt two bars of white chocolate and pour over the top of the puddings. Cut up some red cherries and green angellica to decorate the tops. All done, easy!!

Catch up day!

Day off today so trying to catch up with things around the house and need to finish writing my Xmas cards and to start wrapping some presents up but typically have come down with a flu/cold bug and not feeling so good so a quiet day at home is in order I think!!

Yesterday we put the Christmas tree up and Kimberley chose the colour of the decorations this year and went for turquoise/teal and white and wanted white lights so Neil and I were driving round garden centres yesterday trying to find some and some more teal decorations! Guess what? unbelievably not many places sell turquoise ones!! Took a couple of piccies last night of the tree very quickly and will take some better ones tonight but here's a little glimpse of it.

Getting Closer!!

Not had much to add to blog over the last week or so as have been doing as many hours at work as I can while the work is there so have been ultra busy and not had time to do much crafting or photography. Kimberley and I did do some baking the other day and made some gingerbread men and stars and they tasted great and didn't last long!! Just about done all my Xmas shopping just got to wrap them up and write my cards out this weekend. The tree will be going up on Sunday so will have some tree photos then I'm sure.

We're in the grip of our first lot of snow for this winter, we havn't had any this week so far only a few flurries but its been so cold its stayed around and the paths are now really icy and slippery. Got two pairs of socks on so it must be cold!!! To get us all in the mood for Xmas there are a few free online Xmas craft classes going on.

On Tim Holtz blog he has started his '12 Tags of Christmas'. On the Teresa Collins Blog she is doing '25 Days Until Christmas'. On the UKScrappers site the Christmas Cyber Crop starts this Friday evening and carries on through the weekend so lots there for everyone!!

Early Snow

Once again Norfolk has had snow in November and its set to stay for the next week. Today was the first time I've had a chance to get and take some photos and once again Lucy was my model!! Been a busy week of working this week so no crafting other than a few Xmas cards. Managed a day in the city with Neil and we did some Xmas shopping and then went out for lunch which was lovely, still got a few presents to get though and some more decorations for our tree. We take it in turns to choose which colour we want on the tree and this year Kim has chosen turquoise which is the colour we've not got much of!!

This Saturday is my crop day the last one of 2010 and I will be doing a Make and Take shown in the above photo, its a very easy little bag that has sweets inside made out of a piece of cardstock and any patterned paper and embellishments that you want.

I made a quick and easy Christmas Planner yesterday using an idea i saw on this blog. Just got to add a few bits and pieces and then can start filling it in, more photos later.

Its my birthday today, won't tell you how old I am, will leave you guessing!! Neil had the day off today and we went off upto Snettisham near King's Lynn to the Snettisham Deer Park for a deer safari. As it was cold and windy nobody else turned up except us so the owner took us out in his range rover instead of a cart and we got up close and personal with his deer!! We had a load of food in with us so the deer just followed us about. One female deer came running to the truck as soon as she saw it and the owner explained that it had been hand reared and always came running first to see him, so sweet!! There were some big stags but the rutting season had ended and their antlers were gone. There was a lake in their pastures and loads of them just jumped in and swam over to us. We had the windows of the truck open and they just kept popping their heads through as I was trying to get their photos!!

After our safari we went onto Hunstanton for lunch and were going to take a walk round and on the beach but the rain started and it was so cold and windy there today so homeward bound we were in time to pick Kimberley up walking home from school absolutely soaked, no coat, no umbrella!! Teenagers.

Yesterday we all went round to Mum and Dads for a roast dinner for my birthday and Dad had bought me a lovely rose in a huge pot so was well pleased with that. Will take photos of presents etc tomorrow in the day light!! At Mums Kim found some bubbles and couldn't resist!!

Saturday Part 1

Yesterday before work Neil and I dashed into the city to get me my birthday present. While in the Castle Mall I went down to TKMaxx and they were putting out loads and loads of new scrapbooking packs and kits, alot of We R Memory Keepers kits (Card and scrapbooking) and loads of American Crafts kits which included a 12x12 album, papers, stickers etc for £9.99 well worth a look. I also got my first Gingerbread Latte at Starbucks of this year!!

A Night Out

Yesterday was such a busy day and the rest of the weekend looks to be the same! Yesterday I went into the city and met Mum for some shopping and lunch. We met Thelma Mums friend for coffee first in the new M&S restaurant thats just opened which is very nice inside and lovely coffee. Mum and I then went looking for a birthday present for me. My birthday isn't until Monday but like I say its trying to fit everything in. Just as we were leaving the restaurant I saw the perfect watch I wanted so Mum bought me that. Will take piccie later. We then went to Next and Mum bought me a lovely pink cupcake stand that Kim and I have been wanting for ages so will have to make some cupcakes this weekend. After a couple more shops we stopped for lunch back in M&S and then bus back home, had a lovely day, its nice to be treated out, thanks Mum!!

Last night the four of us went into the city to the Norwich Playhouse to see the Glaswegian comedian Kevin Bridges. He was very good, not as funny as some we've seen but an enjoyable night out despite it being so hot in the theatre. Nice for the four of us to go out TOGETHER!!!

Today I've got to take Lucy for a very long walk and tire her out ready for the fireworks tonight. She never had a problem with fireworks until a few years ago when she went out into the garden and some kids were letting off fireworks right outside our house and they frightened the life out of her, ever since shes been abit of a wreck and I have to sit with her and try and calm her down. Tomorrow night there will be alot of local displays as well but we've been lucky this year and i've only heard a few fireworks go off over the last week or so. This afternoon I've got work, tomorrow is all booked up and Sunday we're going round Mum and Dads for a roast dinner. Neil has Monday off work (which is my birthday) so fingers crossed with the weather we'll go out somewhere with the camera.

Crafting & Music

After having caught up with the housework and ironing, well at least for a few days!! I got stuck into some crafting today. I bought one of these 7Gypsies white printers trays to go in my craft room months ago so decided to start filling the squares today using the Pixi-licious papers from Cosmo Cricket which are bright purple and orange colours. Have done three so far, another nine to go!! While doing these I've been listening to Kim's new Mcfly album which is very good, I'm such a teenager!!

Great Nanny

Yesterday I took the kids upto see my Nan, their Great Nanny who lives in the city. Kim has seen Nan regularly but Alex hasn't seen her for a little while so it was a great surprise for her to see him. She loves the kids and although I don't think she understands a word that comes out of their mouths she enjoys their company!! I made them all go out into the garden so I could get some photos of them together, couldn't believe the height differences!! Nan didn't want a full length photo as she still had her slippers on!!

Half Term Week

This week the kids have been home as its half term so they have been having some lovely long lie-ins! Kim has been busy catching up with her GCSE Art work thats got to be done before Monday, I don't know where the rest of the week has gone to be honest. Had work alot again lately so with that and then having to catch up with things at home the time flies. I have managed to do two layouts this week though. The first one is one using the funghi photos I've been taking on our morning walks and using a sketch from Lisa's blog. The second one is using the only photo I managed to get of Alex on his 18th birthday a few weeks ago.

Just made some cupcakes so hoping to ice them before work as want to take a couple in with me to go with our afternoon cuppa!!

Very cold this morning on our walk and a slight frost in some patches, think its time to get the winter coat out. Seem to have had a busy week this week and not much scrapping/crafting done. Here is a piccie of the grey scarf I've crocheted and the turquoise one I've nearly done, the first things that I've crocheted so not perfect but getting there! Lucy and I had a little photo session in the garden this afternoon armed with a tin of her biscuits of course!!

We went first to the Cley Marshes Visitor Centre (photo of marshes taken from site) for a look around and a walk down to one of the hides they have there, then we drove upto Sheringham and had some lovely hot chips and a walk down by the front.

Yesterday was my crop day and it was packed with lots of lovely ladies catching up with all their news and I think a few of them even managed to do some crafting!! Then home to a nice tea cooked by Neil and settled down to watch Merlin and to start on another crocheted scarf. Will take a piccie tomorrow of my first ever crocheted item - a grey scarf - should have been Kim's but its too short for her so I've got it now!!

Pink Wellies & A Layout!!

Its that time of year again when the wellies make an appearance and I've been wearing Kim's pink ones lately as they fit better than mine!! Autumn is definitely here and the leaves are now starting to turn colour and fall off.

Neil has this week off and in between doing things like trying to see whats wrong with my dryer, trimming Lucy, doing the garden, we have been out to the Aylsham Auction. There were a couple of boxes of stuff that included a couple of vintage cameras that I was after so we hung about for nearly two hours for our lots to come up but unfortunately I didn't win them. One of them went for £48.00 which I wasn't paying so will try again another day.

Actually did a 12x12 layout at the weekend, don't seem to have too much time to scrapbook at the moment but did this one using an old photo taken a couple of years ago and the new Crate Restoration papers.

A Finished Project!

I've actually finished a project and in a week as well! I've just put the last bits and pieces onto my mini book from the Create 10 FREE class, here. This has been an enjoyable class and one that I have learnt alot. I've paid for lots of different classes over the years and have been disappointed in most of them but not this one, I'm looking forward to doing some more. So here are the pages of my mini book.

New Collection

I've been looking to start a new collection of old cameras for a while now but havn't been able to get my hands on any old enough until yesterday. Neil and I drove out to Holt to have a look round the antique and collectible shops they have there and I found one oldish camera that I liked so here is my first one. I thought they would make a nice display in my craft room on a shelf when I decide to go and buy one!!

Making a Mess!!

When we went to Ally Pally last Sunday Kim and I bought some Decopatch items to cover my chipboard ART letters and a frame. So yesterday afternoon we got the glue out and cut up the squares of tissue paper we'd bought and went a covering! It was surprisingly calming!! and messy but love the finished look.

We also started a new Art Journal page each with lots of cutting out of pages from magazines and stamping etc using some ideas we saw at the show from Dyan at Art from the Heart.

Friday evening Neil, Kim and I went to see the comedian Sarah Millican at the Norwich Playhouse. She was excellent, very funny and a little bit ruder in real life than she is on the TV!!! The Playhouse is such a great venue, small and intimate and only holds about 300 people but you get to see them up closer than you do at the Theatre Royal. Next month we've got tickets to see the comedian Kevin Bridges there.

This must be one of the most disgusting things I've seen out on my walks! This fungi is a Common Stinkhorn or known as 'Phallus impudicus'!! Despite its foul smell, it is not poisonous and the young mushroom is consumed in parts of France and Germany.

Been another week where I just don't know where the time has gone! A week of working and house cleaning, trying to get washing dry with all this rain we've been having. Monday was Alexander's 18th birthday and the four of us went out to Pizza Hut for our tea! Not very exciting I know for his 18th but he didn't want any fuss and he loves pizza!!!! He got mostly money for his birthday so he was pleased as that will keep him going for a few months!!

Had a little play with a few of my new things I bought on Sunday and have started the free online mini book workshop which has been excellent. Details can be found here on the Create 10 website. Here is my front cover. More piccies later when I've finished.

Well yesterday was our trip down to London to go to the Alexandra Palace Scrapbooking & Stamp Craft Fayre. Got the coach at 8am from Norwich and arrived at the show about 11.30 as we had a slight delay due to an accident on the bypass and we had to take a detour. Ally Pally is a lovely old building (photo courstesy of Google).

We had quite a few hours there and just walked and walked going back and forwards to all the stalls. Between us Kim and I bought quite a few things including some glimmer mist sprays, gel medium, stamps, things for our art journals and some of the new Crate restoration papers. Trying to get the housework out of the way this morning so I can start playing!!

There's a whole coach load of us Norfolk crafters going down to Alexandra Palace in London tomorrow for the day to attend the Scrapbooking & Card Show so will be back Monday hopefully with a list of all the lovely goodies that Kim and I have bought!!

Another gorgeous day here in Norfolk the sun is out and its t-shirt weather again, got to love the great British weather!! Not blogged for a week now the days just seem to go by so quickly now I'm working more, a busy week last week and then I had my crop on Saturday which was very busy and I did manage to make one card!!

Kim and I did abit of work on our Art Journals yesterday, Kim has lots of ideas and ways she wants to do her pages (more so than me!!) but we both get stuck on the journalling side of things but we're loving trying out new techniques and using lots of paint and Gesso!!

Have started a little tag mini album called 'Fall'. Its going to have some of my photos I take this Autumn, here's a piccie of the start of the front cover.

Right I'm off to the vets with Lucy again! This time just for her yearly booster injection and general check up, not going to be a happy dog!!

More blackberries + Recipe

Couldn't resist picking some more blackberries on our walk this morning and then this afternoon I made some Blackberry Muffins, first time i've made these so not sure what they will be like but they smell lovely!!

Blackberry Muffins

Ingredients

self-raising flour 150g

baking powder 2 1/2 tsp

2 tablespoons sugar

salt 3/4 tsp

margarine 150g

2 eggs, well beaten

Blackberry's 250g

Method

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a muffin tin. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. With a pastry blender or two knives, cut the margarine to make a well in the center. Put the eggs in a small bowl; add it to the mixture all at once into the well in the flour mixture, stirring it until it is just moist. Fold in the Blackberry's. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately remove from pan. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Walk on the Beach

We took Lucy to the beach for her walk this morning, to Mundesley beach as alot of the beaches are still closed to dogs until the end of September. She's not a great lover of the beach but she did go in for a paddle and even chased after a stick or two!!

Finished this layout this afternoon using up some American Crafts papers that I've had for a while. 8,.5 x 11 size for a change, saw the idea somewhere and changed it alot!!!

A Productive Day

Amazing what a day at home can produce. After doing the normal everyday chores - walking Lucy, washing in, washing out, dishes etc I settled in for a crafting and sewing session. I managed:

Cover and decorate a small mini book to put quotes in
Decorate a small Kraft Notebook I bought from Paperchase
Started and completed a layout using some toddler photos I found of Kimberley
Sewed a cover for my sewing machine

Well, nearly! Kimberley went back to school today but not until after ten as they let the new Year 7's have a little while on their own to get settled. Alex doesn't go back to College till tomorrow and then just for one hour I think so he's happy! Today was catch up day and the house has had a thorough clean and I even cleaned most of the carpets using Mother-In-Laws Vax carpet cleaner which was so easy to use and I've done the ironing so feeling I need a day off tomorrow to do some crafting catch ups.

This is the cover of my mini tag album for Shimelle's class 'Learn Something New Everyday'. I've printed out all the pages I need for the days of September and have been keeping notes of what's been happening each day so fingers crossed I'll get started journalling tomorrow on some of the pages.

On Friday Neil and I went to Rollesby Broads to take a small boat out on the water to see if I could get any good photos of any wildlife. The place we went to is called The Waterside and has only been open about five months. They do boat tours, hiring of boats, fishing, putting, play area and a lovely restaurant. We took a dinghy out for two hours which was enough rowing for Neil I think! Unfortunately the wildlife wasn't about that day but we'll try again I'm sure.

Mornings are getting colder!

I've noticed the difference in the mornings this week when going out with Lucy its definitely getting abit nippier and need a cardi on!! Unfortunately it means more of these which are lovely to take photos of but not nice when you walk into them! I walk around with a stick waving it in front of me hoping to get the cobwebs before they get me, if anyone ever sees me they must think I'm mad!!

On the Big Huge Labs site you can change your photos into all sorts of different things and one of them was to make your photos into Trading Cards so I couldn't resist. I made three to start with to do a layout with but am liking the idea now for a little mini book with all the other zoo photos I've got from this year's visit and one a couple of years ago.

Mixed Week

Been a mixed week of activities so far and its only Thursday! Had a day or two of working at a local library, managed a visit to a craft shop (well you have to don't you!!), Kimberley and I cleaned the skirting boards and walls and gave the bathrooms a 'spring' clean and I managed to finish two layouts and start to put together my tag book for Shimelle's 'Learn Something New Every Day' course which started yesterday and I've only done the front cover so far!!

On one of my surfing sessions I went on the 2peas site and found a section they do on lessons (education). Under this there is a section called 'Patterned paper every which way' There are eight great layouts giving you a PDF on how to produce the layout using up your patterned papers etc. The first layout I did was 'Patterned Paper Backgrounds' using up your leftover bits and pieces which were cut up and placed on a piece of cardstock and then I used my sewing machine to fix them into place. The second layout was 'Punches and Patterned Paper' and I love this one. Took a while to punch all the bits and pieces out but a great way of using your punches and looks good.

Bank Holiday

Fairly quiet Bank Holiday Weekend for us, the weather playing a major part of course, wind and lots of rain so no photo opportunities. Kimberley took this one of Lucy and I, that dog does like her cuddles especially at the moment as shes not feeling too well, we think it s some tummy complaint as shes off her food and is feeling very sorry for herself. If shes not better tomorrow it will be another trip to the vets.

Neil and I have been out together twice this week probably the only times all year! Thursday night we went out for a meal with our friends to an Indian restaurant, this was my first visit to an Indian and although I enjoyed the meal (I only had a very mild korma!) I wouldn't rush back, think I prefer a Chinese. We're going to try Thai next I think. Saturday night we went to a wedding reception at Caister Hall, one of Neil's karate friends got married. Was a lovely evening with a lovely buffet and loud music!!

Neil's been busy staining the panels for our new shed as the back of our old one just fell apart so he will be putting that up this week. Kim and I have been messing about in the craft room trying all different techniques etc and of course making a cake or two!! Lots of blackberries about at the moment so went blackberry picking yesterday and got enough to make three crumbles (made one and froze the rest).

Zentangles!!!

These are Kim's Zentangles that she's done in her Art Journal, would love to say they are mine but mine would no way look as good as hers and they are the first two she's ever done. So what is a Zentangle? In a word, a doodle. A structured, contained doodle. Michelle and Daphne at my crop last Saturday showed me what they were doing with these on their ATC's and they looked so good Kim and I have had a go. They are very addictive and you can do them while watching TV!! There's alot of sites on the internet if you want to go take a look see.

Kimberley and I went to Banham Zoo yesterday, been waiting for a rain-free day and abit of blue sky for a while now since we heard that they had some baby Snow Leopards there. Think everybody else had the same idea as we had to queue 20 minutes to pay our money and get in!

Sorry couldn't resist adding an owl photo!!! Not the greatest photos as alot of them were taken through glass but you can see how cute the cubs were. We were really lucky to see the Red Panda so clearly this time as they had just given it some bamboo to eat and it sat there for ages eating it.

Alex gets his AS results today, taking him and a friend to the school to pick them up so fingers crossed he gets some good results then come September its his second year of A levels. He's dropping psychology and the school dropped Classics so he will be doing philosophy/re and history. Then all he's got to do is start choosing universities!! Good Luck Alex.xx

Layouts using doilies

Loving the different looks people are doing using paper doilies. Here are two layouts that I've done. The first one with the green painted doilie I got the idea from a fellow scrapbooker (whose name I forget!). Love that you can paint the doilie to match your layout. The second layout I used a larger doilie as a stencil with some red paint and a smaller white doilie in the middle.

Out on our walk today near Blickling Hall we came across a field that had these sunflowers in but they weren't the usual tall ones they were small ones in between other wild flowers on a farmer's field, looked really nice from a distance too.

I've done another page in my Art Journal. Kim is now upto nine pages so she's way ahead of me although her book is half the size!!! We're finding it hard to get inspiration but we are enjoying painting the pages!! Not a great photo but I painted the page green then added alot of butterflies punched out and then put Gesso paint over the top and added a bit of journalling. Its the journalling too where Kim and I are getting stuck, any help greatly received!!

Cupcake Heaven!!

Another miserable day here in Norfolk yesterday, so after a visit to our local craft shop and a coffee and scone with my Mum, Kim and I got stuck into making some cupcakes, lots of cupcakes!! We also experimented with some different buttercream icing colours and decorations as you can see!! They were from this book which I got from the library and is full of great cupcakes to make, going to make some carrot ones next oh and some coconut ones!!

The summer holidays are flying pass, this was the third week and I've had so much library work I havn't had a chance to do any day trips out anywhere with my camera plus the weather has been abit miserable. Fingers crossed for a sunny day next week.

Kim and I have done some more pages in our Art Journal so will take some photos and post up this weekend.

Lots and lots of dogs!!!

Neil and I went to the Norfolk Dog Day at Stennowe Hall near Guist today, it was all done to raise money for Help for Heroes. We didn't take Lucy as I wasn't sure what it would be like and she gets bored rather easily if she can't run around! There were so many dogs it was unbelievable, could have taken so many home!! There were lots of competitions and dog displays to watch. We watched one by the RAF Dog Team which was great. They had one of their labs on sniffing out drugs in suitcases, then they got the Springer out to sniff drugs in a car and then the alsation to chase down a criminal!! There were also a few celebs there doing some judging and Dad managed to get Andy McNabs autograph and I got his photo! (Andy McNab is the former SAS Soldier and now author). I also got a photo of the poet Pam Ayres, she was queuing up for the ladies toilet so I was abit cheeky and asked her if I could take her photo which she was more than pleased to do. People my age will remember Pam Ayres poems - this one is one of my faves:

THE EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE WITH A PARROT

At the Cotswold Wild Life Park,
In the merry month of May,
I paid the man the money,
And went in to spend the day,
Straightway to the Pets Corner,
I turned my eager feet,
To go and see the rabbits,
And give them something to eat.

As I approached the hutches,
I was alarmed to see,
A crowd of little yobbos,
'Ollerin' with glee,
I crept up close behind them
And weighed the scene up quick,
And saw them poke the rabbits
Poke them! . . with a stick!

'Get off you little buggers!"
I shouted in their ear,
'Don't you poke them rabbits,
That's not why they are here."
I must have really scared them,
In seconds they were gone,
And feelin' I had done some good,
I carried on along.

Till up beside the Parrots Cage,
I stood to view the scene,
They was lovely parrots,
Beautiful blue and green,
In and out the nestbox,
They was really having fun,
Squawking out and flying about,
All except for one.

One poor old puffed-up parrot,
Clung grimly to his perch,
And as the wind blew frontwards,
Backwards he would lurch,
One foot up in his feathers,
Abandoned by the rest,

Well, I walked on down the pathway
And I stroked a nanny goat,
But the thought of parrots dyin'
Brought a lump into me throat,
I could no longer stand it,
And to the office I fled,
Politely I began: 'Scuse me,
Your parrot's nearly dead."

So me and a curator,
In urgent leaps and bounds,
With a bottle of Parrot Cure,
Dashed across the grounds,
The dust flew up around us,
As we reached the Parrots Pen,
And the curator he turned to me
Saying 'Which one is it then?"

You know what I am going to say,
He was not there at all,
At least, not where I left him,
No, he flit from wall to wall,

The curator was very kind,

But I was humiliated,

The curator went back,

Messing about with paints!

Kimberley and I had a play with some paints and other art journal type crafty things yesterday afternoon! We both decided to start an art journal, well Kim started hers and then persuaded me to have a go! This is my first page. I started off painting the page with a gorgeous pink then added a Donna Downey foam stamp with green paint and then I dusted off my foam stamps and stamped the words on using white paint. The flowers were stamped onto white card and coloured in using Promarkers.

Day Out

Neil has this week off and yesterday we decided to go out for the day. We went to Beccles first to take Lucy for a lovely long walk by the river and boy was it hot! Lots of butterflies about which was good as there does seem a shortage of them this summer (butterfly photos to follow). We then went on to Southwold as it was only about ten miles from Beccles. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the beach but we had a good walk along the front and round the town. Its a lovely town and there were quite a few holidaymakers there.

Quick visit to the city this morning as Kim's Ipod is playing up so we've got an appointment at the Apple Store for them to take a look at it and then a quick cup of tea with my Nan before we have to drop Kim off at the swimming pool to meet her friends. I've got work this afternoon which leaves Neil with a list of chores to do!!

Crafting

As we had abit of a miserable weekend weather wise I managed to spend some time in my craft room and put together some layouts and some cards. The layouts were done using some ideas from here, Create 10 a layout class that kick started me as I was running out of ideas!!! They were all about using up your leftover papers which was excellent for me as I do have alot of them!! The cards are a mixture some using the Born to Shop decoupage sheets which I've never done before (and cheated as you just pushed them out!!!). Born to Shop used to do a range of mugs with all different occupations on, I'm looking for one with Librarian on so if anyone has seen them please let me know. The 'smile' card was produced by using Photoshop brushes on PSE7 and printed and cut out.

Start of the Summer Holidays

Managed to photograph a few layouts I've done lately although as its pouring with rain at the moment had to do them inside so they are not too great. The first layout is using Echo Park Summertime papers and photos of me taken at Castle Howard a few weeks ago. The second layout of Lucy is a scraplift taken from April's Scrapbook Trends magazine, I loved to be able to use all the journalling stamps I seem to have accumulated!! The third layout was okay until I decided to use a glimmermist on it and it came out in big clumps so have technically ruined it. The papers are the new Echo Park Life is Good range, the colours are alot brighter in real life.

Another visit to the hospital with Kimberley today, more physio on her back and more exercises given to her to do at home, we think the cause could be that Kim is very flexible and her muscles are 'wobbly' so she has to try and strengthen her stomach muscles to help her back!!

Got a busy two days on Thursday and Friday working so have tomorrow to do some more crafting!! Got some more layouts I want to do, need to finish my York mini book, got a Cath Kidston bag to sew together and a few more things to finish.

Peacocks & Delphiniums

A few more photos from our recent Staycation in Yorkshire. The delphinium flowers and purple peacock were taken at Castle Howard but the white peacock we saw on a farm as we were driving past!! The peacocks can be very fast birds when they want to be! The lavendar photos were taken at Yorkshire Lavendar which was a great place with a lovely coffee shop where I was quite brave and had lavendar and blueberry jam on my scone, didn't go as far as having lavendar scones though!!

Yesterday was my last day of working at the junior school as a Midday Supervisory Assistant, I've been there for six years and it was definitely time for a change so I'm so pleased that I've now started doing relief Library Assistant work at our local libraries. Had two sessions this week and another days course at County Hall and have quite a few hours to do next week, so far so good!!

Kids finished school now for the summer holidays - five weeks of long lie-ins for them I expect!

Relaxing Day

Had a very relaxing day today, should have got on with the ironing but decided to meet a friend for a coffee and a look round our local craft shop (didn't buy anything!) and did some scrapbooking this afternoon.

This morning Lucy and I went on one of our fave walks and we were gone for quite a while as the weather was lovely and sunny.

I started my York mini album the other day, have done the cover and a few pages using the Bo Bunny Mama Razzi papers.

Been a while since I last posted I know but sometimes things catch up with you!!! I was ill in bed for about three days with a bad virus and the weekend wasn't too much better. This week I've been busy working and attending another day course at County Hall and in between its a case of playing catch up around the house - still got a huge pile of ironing to do though!! The kids are counting down to the end of the summer term and looking forward to their five weeks holiday. Alex finishes at 6th Form today and Kim finishes High School at lunchtime Friday and then she's in her last year at High School, Year 11, and thats when the fun of studying and revising for GCSE's starts!! But first five weeks off and well deserved, they've both done brilliantly this year and I'm very proud of them both. We wait Alex's As Level results next month!!

Lovely walk over the heath common this morning, got up early and was there about 6.30am to try and beat the heat.

I've actually done a layout! Been sitting on my desk all week waiting for me to do the journalling! Photo taken when we were up in Whitby a couple of weeks ago. Papers are the new ones from Echo Park which are so good for summer layouts.

Yorkshire

We have just come back from five days away up in Yorkshire in a gorgeous cottage in a village called Sinnington near Pickering. We had a very busy five days and got back last Friday evening shattered and spent the weekend catching up with all the washing and ironing and trying to cope with the heat! We didn't get the really hot weather that Norfolk had up in Yorkshire, it was lovely and dry and sunny but not boiling hot which was good. We packed a lot into the week including visits to the city of York (shops for Kim), Harrogate (shops for Kim), Bempton Cliffs (puffins for me), Scarborough and Whitby and Robin Hood Bay, Yorkshire Lavendar and Castle Howard. Lucy was excellent, we took her for a long walks around the village we were staying in and she came out with us during the day, a very tired dog by the end of the day!!!

Back to normal now with housework to do, more ironing and work this afternoon. Trying to sort through the many photos I took last week and need to print some out to put into a mini book I'm making. Got some sewing I want to get into. I bought a Cath Kidston Sew Book in York which comes with all you need to make a small bag so want to get started on that. We found two CK shops in Yorkshire full of lovely stuff but just too expensive, £18.00 per metre for the material.
